Matie’s murder accused abandons bail bid

STELLENBOSCH – The accused in the Maties student murder case has abandoned his bid for bail.  
Rudolf Hufke briefly appeared in the Stellenbosch magistrate’s court on Monday for his alleged involvement in the killing of 19-year-old Jesse Mitchell. 
Western Cape Police say Mitchell, a first-year student at Stellenbosch University, was cycling home last Wednesday when he was stopped, robbed of his belongings and stabbed to death.
The incident happened on his 19th birthday.
